Comments are live reactions.

  1. Nice to Meet You

A peppy indie rock song to get into the groove of things. Very cute song that I can hear myself revisiting.

  2. Girl at the Station

Now why would you have the first song build up to something only for the second song to be a ballad…

This is a cute song that details loving someone at first sight but knowing you could never seee them again; so you hope to see them again very often soon.

  3. Falling for a Friend

Another cute song that detail innocent love; using bossa nova is a good choice.

I love those cute pipes in the production and the horns in the outro. Very theatrical ending.

  4. Fuzzy Feeling (with Benny Sings)*

I feel like I’ve heard this song somewhere before; but it is a single so I probably heard it from one of my oomfs. The melody of the chorus feels very elementary and innocent.

I like how the bass guitar doesn’t sustain for the second chorus; it adds a nice effect. Oh I see why they did it; great tension building to the refrain and key change.

Based on the album’s soundscape so far, I can see why this is a single.

  5. Headspace

A nice light pop rock production going on right now. I liked the verses, but I don’t like the chorus where he switches from chest to head voice through a scalar melody; impressive yes, but I don’t know, it doesn’t rub me right way?

I really like the production, but the melody might take some growing on me. Definitely one of my favorites from the album so far.

  6. 12065

I think the order of the album is a little interesting. Going from a pretty peppy production to a now very subdued, downbeat, and intimate production is definitely a choice.

The outro with the telephone filter and background chatter is a nice touch.

  7. Everest

Very whimiscal. That’s the perfect way to describe this album. You have to have a certain ear palette and expectation before coming into this album. If you’re feeling whimsical, youthful, and hopeful, this album is for you.

  8. Need You Around*

Oh I like how this song is starting out.

Before I even realized, the song ended so let me restart lol.

The production is giving a nuanced take of The Strokes. With a strong bass line to ground the production and a vibrant guitar line to add brightness and a carefree feeling to it.

Very peppy and bright. The melody of the hook is really nice and sing-along-able.

    Added.

  9. Reason Why

Keeping up the whimsical vibe with the arpeggiated guitar.

Is this a promoted single? There’s no music video but there are lyrics available for it on Spotify (which is only reserved for the singles off of this project).

  10. Dandelion (with Ruel)*

The true hit off of this album… The melody, the production, the tinge of alternative R&B in it… it all equates to this powerfully relaxing feel good song. Ruel’s feature adds so much depth to the song as well; love his raspiness on this track.

  11. 2DK*

Very alternative R&B which is quite the contrast compared to how the rest of the album sounds.

The hook really emphasizes the alternative R&B nature of the song with the scratch effects and the accompanying drums.

  12. Movie Scene*

From “Dandelion” to here, I’m quite surprised about the choices for the lead singles. This is an alternative R&B song that does not build the expectations towards the whimiscal folk rock album well… I don’t know grentperez very well, so I don’t know if he’s aiming to go more alternative R&B or folk rock with his career/sound. I can see why he chose both. He’s more charismatic on the alternative R&B songs but more charming on the folk rock songs; is there a way he could combine both?

  13. Yours to Keep

A cute ballad with that whimsical feel that grentperez has been curating throughout the album. What’s different about this song though is that I think approaching the whimsical feeling as a ballad really sells the lovey-dovey, hopeless romance, and timeless youth of it all.
